1959 Forty Plus Not Pumping Water

Hi,

Seagull newbie here.

I bought an old forty plus in the summer. It was pumping water well then, and again the only time I have used it on my tender. Put it in a water tub yesterday after removing the prop, but no water coming out of the outlet on the block - only steam. Tried backflushing through the outlet (John's not wrong when he says this is a wet job!), but water only pouring out of the exhuaust, not the inlet slots.

Would appreciate some thoughts on what my next steps should be. Is it worth now trying to circulate some descaler (Viakal?) through the outlet in the block, or should I be removing the exhaust to see if the water pipe is blocked or loose? If the latter, I think I will need to wait until the manual (which I'm ordering) arrives, as it's not obvious to me how I'd go about it.

I'm loathe to remove the block to see if it's blocked there, as I'm not particulalrly tech savvy, I probably don't have the right tools, and I'm alarmed about stories of bolts shearing!

Anyone know a shop within an hour or so of Guildford (Solent?) that still services Seagulls? I think Simon (in Burnham-on-Crouch?) would be a bit of trek for me.

Remove exhaust to see if water delivery tube is ok, it might have come loose, & have a look at the FAQ's.

Thanks Charles. Have read the FAQ. Will remove exhaust to check water tube, but will wait for service manual as it's not obvious to me how to remove this.
