Removing exhaust tube from barrel.

Post by Hugz »

Hi

Any tricks to the trade in removing a stubborn exhaust tube? I've separated the cylinder block from the crankcase and removed the clamp and have plenty of movement and have been gently tapping around the joint with a hammer. I'm tempted to hit on the underside of the cylinder block but am wary of cracking it. I have the head off. It's a century.

Thanks Hugo.

Hi Hugo - get the top end of the tube all around the area of the block hot with a blowlamp or similar - give the tube a liitle while to expand (the cast iron of the block will disperse heat faster than the tube), put on some gardening gloves, and the tube should slide off fairly easily, especially if you wriggle it a bit. Don't move it too far from side to side, as you might risk stretching the tube while it is hot. Rick
