Model 100 Missfiring
My 1962--1963 Century 100 was having a problem when i tested it on the water today. As i turned the throttle up, it felt like the prop was hitting the bottom of the river. But at 40ft deep it wasnt that.(Maybe its missfiring) So when i got home i pulled the flywheel of to inspect the points and noticed the wire from the coil to the points was a bit SUS. The insulation looks like its frayed, and it looks like it may have melted to the base plate a bit. I will have to change the wire over, Would i be gaining any advantage if i was to use a heavyer gauge wire, And when i do change it do i use my solder iron to undo the wire from the coil. As for the points end, can i use a normal electrical loop connecter.

Just soldered but you need something with some heat not just a small electronics type iron. No advantage in going up in gauge. More important that the wire has got good continuity end to end so any connection as long as its good.
Are you sure it's ignition related? Usually firing is firing.... Sure your not running lean or crap in the fuel system somewhere, doesn't take much to starve the system a little at high revs.

I mixed up a fresh batch of fuel today. Premium unleaded and SAE-30 Engine oil at 10-1 ratio. Fuel system is spotless, and it has a new plug. So im hoping this is the problem,
Couple more things ive just noticed, The points locking screw wasnt tight at all. I could of used my thumb and index finger to undo it with the screw-driver.And the float bowl has a hole in it thats been sealed up. Whats the hole for, and why is it sealed up.

Cut and shut a new wire, Cleaned and set the points. Regaped the spark plug. And took it out for a test run today. The tacho was showing 3700rpm at WOT. And no shudering or missing

Goodo! Hole faces back and drains fuel out of bowl when laying down motor so no old fuel problems next time and also reduces chances of flooding when bobbing around on water.
