Hi,
Could somebody please tell me the length of the tiller handle as fitted to an
FVP,
I have seen several pictures of the handle and all show it to be shorter than the usual
I am in the process of making one from an old 102 tiller that was beyond saving,
Thanks to KEITH P,& OYSTER 49 for there help regarding the steel gaskets, and the
drive shaft cover removal which unscrewed without to much trouble, its being rechromed at the moment
Hope to have it up and running soon and post some pictures of my latest nestling
Forgot to ask is the handle is held on by split pin or rivet
thanks for all your help

Again I go out to measure something only to discover something new!

The short ones fitted to the cast stub on the crankcase are 5 1/4" for an FVP, 5" for an FV

The longer ones fitted to a pressed steel cage - the ones that tilt - are 10"

I had no idea the FVP had a longer tiller arm than an FV. I only have one FVP, and I've measured three FV's.

The arms are held on with a short brass split pin.

Hope that helps

Hi OYSTER 49,
These are the steel gaskets from my FVP
I gave them a light blast with glass beads and then a wire brush showed the pictures to
John SOS who said they looked spot on and advised me to lightly coat them with high temp
RTV when assembling this I have done
So I hope it will be successful,
Thank you once again

Excellent! The one I stripped down had no gaskets, just black sealant in vast amounts! It was horrible!

I've got a FVP to rebuild at some point, future project. 8)

Do you have the ability to get a good engineering drawing done of those so I can get a quote for having some lazer cut?

yours look very good!

Charles, I have two steel gaskets in good order i saved to use as templates for new ones made in stainless or copper, and a friend of mine can draw it on solid works. However the standard copper head gasket for the later 40 models works fine. I'm away shortly sailing but I'll take a look when I get back.

Solidworks or Autocad would be great.

Interesting post. It answered my question about tiller arm length.

My gaskets are removed and will be cleaned etc. I could measure and draw them on Autocad but I don't have the equipment for high precision measuring. I mean, I have a vernier but I doubt if this is enough.

If anyone has done or could do the measurements I would highly appreciate it (metric or imperial). I am planning to have a pair made. I have ordered years ago some parts (from autocad drawings) from a shop but they cut sheets of stainless steel using water, I don't know if that reaches the precision needed but that will be the last matter to sort out since I have measurements to create a drawing.

Anyone interested to have gaskets made is welcomed, that would also reduce the price per item.

Second thoughts.. The only thing that needs high precision is the diameter of the big circle on both gaskets as it should be tight to avoid leaks. So yes, if anyone could help on this I can proceed.
I love the 10600/145 turns!!!

Stelios, the copper head gasket for the later forty models fits the little forty just fine. My FV has one fitted now in fact. I have the drawings of the base gasket, I will try and post it.

Yes I know that the copper (I also have one new sitting) will do the job but since I can have some made I would like to.

That's great, waiting to receive them!
