The first trip was done with two red 4 wheel drives, I do not think they went in a boat that trip....................

OK, I had an hour on the net and found transcripts of the book, written by them after the Channel Nine sale of the movie.

The book is An Ugly River etc, look it up.

Part of the book with searching keywords came up with the item below.

The motor had a 12 volt generator obviously. The only 12 volt charging system offered in 1963 was by OMC as an accessory for the 18Hp.

For a 12 ft aluminium boat, 18Hp would be rather large in weight and cumbersome for handling........maybe that was the learning curve and excellent accounting of the problems along the way.

The 18 had 3 blade prop as well. It was noted in the book that one blade, leaving two was repeatably damaged during the trip.

Here is a grab of text with page ref below.

No australian Make had a 12 volt generator at the time.

We need to see the movie that they made........Down the Darling as much footage was taken of whatever it was.

Would you like to proceed further with this Chris and let us know what you find?

Well done!

I do not think the book had pictures, maybe wrong.

What we need is the copy of the documentary as sold to channel nine, then we can see and work things out from there.

I have searched for it with no success. I just get "references to Same" with no forwarding on links.

Could we continue this task?

If anyone reading this post can help, please chip in.

Ongoing with me so far.................

Are you thinking of the fake Uluru at Karuah? Lazy Brothers World now known as the Aussie Bush Camp (I think). Not sure if there is any Leyland Bros memorabilia there. Drove past last week. Not far from Bazooka's place either.

That would have been a British Leyland bus no doubt. Company first started as Lancashire Steam Motor Company in 1896.

Thanks Chris!
