Electronic Ignition Misery

Post by fastjedi »

When i stripped my EFPC for rebuild I noticed the electronic ignition unit was quite rusty (but working)
With this in mind I took the opportunity to buy a spare on ebay.

On completion I was disappoited to find I had no spark. I swapped the ignition unit and all was well.
Having got it running to my satisfaction in the garage, I slopped a bit more fuel in the tank for sea trials
One more test ..... No spark :(

This afternoon I have attempted to resolve my issue without success ... I am back to a pile of bits on the bench.
Does anyone know what resistance I should measure across the pickup and / or coil.
The two units I have present the same ohms (they may have the same fault)
What next
1. Watch Ebay till another CDI unit gets listed at a sesible price (could be may months or years) :?
2. Buy the top end of a pre electronic model ...but I lose my recoil starter :|
3. Break it for spares and move on :(

Perhaps you should talk to John at SOS I know he allways has both models of CDI in stock & they're available on an exchange basis.
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

I'm not sure the value of a 40+ stands the investment in a reconditioned CDI.
I'll see if I can find an earlier backplate, ingition and flywheel first

If we talked about value , none of us would restore seagulls.
It is the value that you get out of it seeing something run that may have headed for the scrapheap
