Sealing the exhault tube

Post by fastjedi »

My EFPC is up and running after its rebuild.

Is there a way of preventing spent 2T oil from escaping from the block/exhaust tube and block/gearbox joint?
BTW, its an aluminium tube
Instant gasket?

I think the only way to stop things from leaking from a seagull is by not using it, it is quite normal for them to leak from there, actually even when you don't use them they leak.

After I'd rebuilt the WSPCL to (fro me) pristine condition and ran it in the tank for 15 minutes, it weeped oil out of the bottom of the exhaust tube all over the freshly painted gearbox/waterpump housing for days (weeks!) afterwards. I'm glad to know that this is normal.

The engines that I have taken apart have shown sings of sealant around the cylinder to exhaust joint.

It is a beige hard sealant very similar to exhaust assembly paste, available at most motor factors.

My later Century 1966 has an o ring groove around the exhaust stub which seals the pipe. I don't know if this was standard or a modification. Regardless oil still comes out of the small holes.
Cheers Rolf.
