Faith in eBay partially restored.

Post by charlesp »

Collected a Seagull 170 from Swanage this morning, which I'd successfully purchased through the eponymous auction site.

What a helpful man! Insisted on showing me the thing running, threw in a petrol tank, and even insisted on putting it into my car boot to save me getting my hands dirty. He wanted to give me black bags to protect the boot carpets.

Watched by his three charming young daughters with beaming smiles, and aided and abetted by the cat and the dog, my girlfriend and I were really delighted with the whole episode.

Thanks to the Beale family...

The 170 is from the first year of manufacture with the fibreglass cowl, and is complete apart from thumbscrews and a bit of the strange tube steel subframe thing that always disappears. It'll join the rest of the pile of 'to do' motors at the far end of the workshop. Very pleased. Only another few hundred to go and I'll have the set. (Have you ever worked out just how many motors you'd have to collect to actually own one of everything, even if you discount the options like long/short shafts?)

What a lovely morning. Glad I didn't drive along the coats to Beaulieu today, although I am confident that at least four of the people who frequent this board will be on the phone tonight upsetting me with their tales of bargain mint Marstons and the like.
