Re: longest run
Sorry Keith that you cant do all the events.
I am planning to do the Thames sometime this year.
Start Lechlade finish Richmond about 122 miles, should be able to do it in less than a week.
These guys did it in 4.5 days http://www.lelean.com/the_thames.htm.
Camping on the way, they were doing 4.5 mph, on the quiet bits you could do 10 mph if you did not create too much wash.
Yellow boat and a Kingfisher sorted. I would like to make a tent that fits the boat like they have on rowing skiffs.
Anyone else up for it?

Will you be considering a small mast and a boom tent? Been thinking along the same lines.

A trip down the Thames sounds nice
We've been discussing logistics for these bigger trips & this is a possible plan;
1. Everybody gather at the final destination, leave the vehicles here, load all the boats & camping gear onto a truck or van towing a very large trailer
2. drive to the starting location & launch
3. enjoy a leisurely trip down the river, camping overnight as you go
4. everybody arrives at the final destination complete with your vehicle

I was going to use hoops, like they do on camping skiffs.Hugz wrote:Will you be considering a small mast and a boom tent? Been thinking along the same lines.

I will use a cheap camo tarp to see if it works, sew it up on the sewing machine.

Re: longest run
only 15 miles from jersey to sark singlehanded but with no other boats to be seen ---bit lonely in the middle---- regards blue-----------------------------like the idea of your down the thames trip HA but think you need faster company than me-----you ve seen how fast my boat goes with a seagull----might be something to do with your boat weighing 30 kgs and mine weighing 340 kgs
Re: longest run
hi HA don t like the idea of the fuel bladder-----got 2 x30 litre fuel tanks-----you can borrow one or both if you want ---regards blue----- ps i know a shingle slipway in ham about 1 mile above richmond to pull out
Re: longest run
I am new to all this but the Thames trip sounds interesting. I have collected a number of 40+ over the last year and also have access to a Gull dinghy and a GP14 ..would either of these be suitable?

We can lend you a boat Blue, that Enterprise hull that Charles got, will soon be repaired. (need slightly better weather).blue wrote:-----you ve seen how fast my boat goes with a seagull----might be something to do with your boat weighing 30 kgs and mine weighing 340 kgs
Pop your 102 on the back, easy.
We could clam shell it on my yellow boat and take you to the start.
Small tent or boat cover, bit of grub, beer tokens, 2 stoke mix thats all you need.

(could be time to start the "Length of the non tidal Thames trip" post.)

Yes both hulls would do.mjn321 wrote:I am new to all this but the Thames trip sounds interesting. I have collected a number of 40+ over the last year and also have access to a Gull dinghy and a GP14 ..would either of these be suitable?
This is looking like it is an easy fun event to do.
