After use in salt water. (or any water for that matter)
What should i put in the fresh water to run through the motor to preserve the interior while its being stored ?
Any good ideas to prevent corrosion in its downtime ?
Regards...Jesse

Some of my motors are over 50yrs & only used in seawater. After use use garden hose & back flush the motor through the outlet, then run motor untill block is warm. Then liberaly spray motor with CRC or similar product to leave oily film on motor. If not being used again for some time i pull rear housing of gearbox & clean out old oil & refill with new. Leave motor in upright position for storage. Squirt a little oil in plug hole, spin motor by hand & refit plug. Also remove all fuel from tank & carby.

Great, That sounds like good advice. Ill do all of that.
But i was mainly thinking of the water jackets in the block. Is there something that i can stick in the water when running it clean that may leave a coating on the inside that will prevent corrosion ? Maybe im seeing a potential problem that isnt there.
I guess if its run clean and then allowed to dry, there will be no corrosion internally while sitting idle ?
I dont know ?

As mentioned, run the motor out of water until block is getting hot to the touch externally, you will not harm it. Yep, CRC or similar as well liberally external.
There is a trick to add to a fresh water bin for flushing though.
Soluable oil (Steam Oil) like used in locomotives and generator steam plants ages ago.
Turns the water milky and soaks into the skin like crazy. ( Lanolin?)
I have not purchased any for ages, (I have a drum past 30 years), but may be still available.............totally coats all water passages.
Fuel system.
Drain the tank from the bottom of the carby untill no more comes out then dry inside of tank with HID fav dry and clean bottle washer.
Remove float bowl, fuel line and throttle slide (Any Make) and, (except for slide assy) put in a paper bag for a couple of days to dry. Blow down thru the slide bore a couple of times thru the jets then replace everything after that time. Spark plug should be removed, washed in acetone/metho and put in the paper bag also.
Leave fuel cap unscrewed from tank untill next refill. Cover tank/top of motor with an old pillow case or something to keep creatures out and allow free air movement. No condensation then. Cotton, not the fancy silks or nylons.
Oil the fuel tap internals and leave open.
Leave piston TDC. (points open)
Remove flywheel cover, tie it to something on the motor and use said pillow case along with tank opening to cover the internals. Like KKK hood.
Come back in any time say within 5 years, replace flywheel cover , fill with fuel and two pulls.
Gearbox
Fresh oil or no oil after draining up to you and how big a puddle forms if a trait of Old Dear.
I store all of my motors like this after refurbishment.
Total spanner time is about 30 min.
