I have another engine with a problem!
The person who ownes the seagull wouldn't fork out £5 for a drive spring so put a few washers and a bit of metal in front of the prop. Well anyway, he must have hit something.
I got the engine, took the drive shaft tube off and the drive shaft had twisted 90 degrees and shredded itself, it was hanging on but the smallest bit of metal! I but this off, removed the impeller and gasket. I can now see to the end of the drive shaft where it connects to the gearbox.
HOW DO I GET THIS OFF! It is solid! I have tried levering it, I drilled a hole through it and put a metal bar through to lever it even more! I know these get rusted on being steel and partly below water. I don't have access to the bottom part of the drive shaft which is the part i need to get to! I would grind a small line down the drive shaft andheat it up but I cant get down there due to the gearbox housing.

I would suggest that first you purchase the service sheets from this site, a small cost but very worthwhile.
Secondly, remove the gearbox assembly.
Thirdly, if all else fails, remove the final drive pinion as per the sheets, Not too hard a job if you have some workshop experience.
It is likely that with the damage you describe, there is some gear damage and this will give you the opportunity to check.
