Driveshaft Tube Re-Chrome??

Post by JERSEYMAN »

Hello everybody, does anybody know of a good contact to have these seagull drive tubes re-chromed, I have several I would like to do in one go. I did a google search but I would much rather a recommendation for someone.

Many Thanks, Rene.

Don't imagine it will help you much but a few years ago i got Triumph rear quater bumbers, front bumpers and over riders stripped and re-chromed at a place in Gosport, Hampshire called Key Plating.

Very small firm but was very impressed with the work, i assume they are still there.

Key Plating Ltd.
Quay Lane

Of course the cost and result is down to how good your drive tubes are, they can and do polish before re-chrome but these tubes can suffer something awful.

I went in there this week, minimum charge is £30. I asked how much for a quantity without polishing and it would cost £20 each for a minimum quantity of 2

I went to a platers in Gosport when I was at Portsmouth Polytechnic (1986). It was open all night doing galvanising, the zinc was melted with off peak electricity. It could well be the one in Quay lane. The open all hours worked well with student life, leave the night club at 2 in the morning and pop down the platers.

We could do with a tame cheap plater, perhaps it might be worth getting a batch together for a better price.

Key plating doesn't do galvanising, but the industrial unit opposite does.

When i was in enquiring he asked what it was as he recognised it, once i told him he said they used to do them by the hundreds many years ago.

Authentic platers to Seagull then.
