Conrod cap bolts

Post by Frosty »

Just wondering if anyone can advise me on wiring method for end cap bolts on a 170. Just about to rebuild my 170 with a rare conrod assembly and would rather not mess it up, as no second chances if iI screw this one up. (keep revs below 5000 is best practice I believe) Just trying to find out if a particular wiring pattern is required.

I also would like to know any thinking on whether or not a gasket sealing compound is recommended on head gasket, barrel gasket and drive tube gaskets. They are all new gaskets thanks to John SOS.

Thanks,
Scott

Scott, talk to Brian Lightbourne, he has had the most experience with 170's in Bermuda.

The 170 oracle i.e. British Seagull would probably tell you that the safe maximum revs is 4500, but at those revs, Kingfishers will be going past you, too embarrassing!

Use RTV silicon on both sides of the head gasket, on the cylinder side only of the crankcase/cylinder gasket & on one side only of the drive shaft tube gasket.
Also use it between the 2 crankcase sides.
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.
