I have the opportunity to buy a 40 minus (SJM B6 series) that probably has been in storage for 25 years. I recently restored a 40 plus and am planning on using it on my canoe. I was wondering how the 40 minus is different - shaft length ?, weight ? . Are there any specific disadvantages to the 40m minus as far as design, difficulty of finding parts, etc. ?
Thanks,
M

Re: difference between 40 minus and 40 plus
The difference is in shaft length, lower unit ratio, and propeller size. The standard 40+ L/U ratio is 3.5:1, the 40- 2.1:1 The shaft length is 1" shorter than standard length 40+. An ideal small tender [dinghy] motor. 6" prop instead of 9"
