1030 x 16 coil on villiers site at £54.17 plus VAT . Assuming that will be OK on SD

You will have to include the collars that increase the core diameter to bring it up to the 9/16" that the SD cheeks require, there are several posts on here that explain the differences.

Villiers list this coil as being 9/16 core.

That could be a good find! Cheaper as well. I have the version with sleeves on my SD at £65 plus p&p, but I have another SD to rebuild when I get around to it. So I'd be interested to see how you get on.

May as well go the whole hog and get a new condenser. I am hoping that M1750 is correct for wartime SD

Sadly the coil arrived today and it is the smaller coil with collars added. However it will be covered by a big chunk of revolving aluminium soon.
I will still plan to get original coil rewound.

That's not what I'd call honest.

So it's definitely not a Villiers 1030 x 16, which should be 1 1/2" diameter, 9/16" core diameter, just over 3 1/2" long core, with a coil length of just over 2 5/8"

I've just spoken to this lot & they confirm that they don't have the M1030 x 16 coils but instead supply the later style smaller coils with the collars, & because of the very limited demand, have no plans to have the M1030 x 16 coils re manufactured.

So it's back to the earlier plan that was to get some dead M1030's rewound, it seems that it will be cheaper to have them done in batches, so in the next few weeks I will send the 2 dead ones that I have extricated, off to one of the 2 potential re-winders I've been given, to see how it works out cost, standard of finish & time wise.

Managed to remove old coil and long coil cheeks (4 screws) but one of the longer screws that also held the ht lead clip was so badly damaged that I had to drill it out.
Are replacements available . No Idea of part number as it isn't in the spare parts list.

I think you'll find the answer to your question is no, I've searched long & hard to no avail.

So I made some of the long ones & some of the short ones & took them to the electro-platers, the price they gave me to tin plate (closest to the original finish) them was over a pound each, £50 for two small bags, I thanked them for their kind offer & declined their assistance, chucked them in a drawer & there they have lain till you reminded me about them. I must do something about them.

Now down to finer details of the ignition system . I would like to replace the condenser but how do I get to it.
The underside is covered in black gung. I am assuming I clean that off and go in from underneath. Why is the black stuff there in the first place and do I replace it later ?

The wire to the coil goes to a small brass nut which moves slightly . What is the procedure for replacing the old coil ?.

I was an engineer (Leyland Motors) 25 years man and boy. Sadly mechanical not electrical.
Amazingly it took Leyland 70 years to produce a one piece cylinder block , seagull started with one.

I would be interested in purchasing one of your long cheek screws . I can live with it not being plated.
Looks like I will have to solder the points wire to the coil end as the new coil doesn't have a tapped hole
