Hi there,my name is paul(mrdraddy)i would just like to say hello to all fellow seagull nuts!!
I only own 1 gull at the moment( a rather scruffy 40 plus) although i am looking for more!!
Anyone fancy some sort of seagull get together when the weather improves?

Surrey eh? Poole sounds like a good venue for your get-together. We have a harbour, and boats and the like.

What's more Andy and myself have been thinking about sorting something out along these lines.

Yes Charles I have been watching the site with interest. And maybe would suggest meeting at a mid-way point between us all, to chat about maybe a spring splashabout!!
Jothina, bring your box of bits and I'm sure Charles and I will fix over a pub lunch!!! If not you can borrow one of mine.
The sooner the better as far as I'm concerned. I need something good to look forward to!!

That bring some interesting images to mind.

I can just see us sitting in a quiet country pub with a pint of something and a ploughman's lunch, spanners and screwdrivers and hammers working away on the pub dining table with all the bar staff wondering whether they should chuck us out or check that the local mental hospital hasn't lost a few inmates!

Do you think they'd let us bolt a vice to the bar?

Where do we suggest?

I suggest Wolverhampton,plenty of canals and the place is full of loonies so no one would think any different.

Annyone who has seen my office wouldn't accuse me of ANY administrative skills at all.

Anyone else on board? And any better suggestions about where to go?

Wolverhampton is one idea, mid way (wherever that may be) is another, or there are attractions to Poole that may just convine you. It's not only that I'd have less of a distance. I could show you where the factories were (three of them), the first office in Hamworthy (approximately), and we could arrange for lots of floating about 'cos we've got a whole harbour to play in.

But it may be too far for some.

Genuine idea please, preferably written on a ten pound note, but failing that post them here...

There are lots of problems organising an event for Seagulls. The lads in Cornwall have it cracked. And they get brownie points for doing it for charity... tends to stop a lot of the complaints....

You need a slow running bit of water, ( that rules out the lower Thames!) that you do not need a license to go on, (That rules out the upper Thames....) you need a large car park and public slip, or a very friendly sailing or power boat club, with the same facilities. Hmmmmm A large tidal harbour... depends on local bylaws.... harbour rules...

The problem if it gets too organised is the P.C. brigade. 3rd party insurance must be held by all, (Who has that for a dinghy and a Seagull, unless it is the tender to the parent boat....) and a special day insurance taken out by the organisers... This knocks just about all of the proposed events. On the local river the local council step in.....

Be great if someone had their own private lake, but I have not got any friends rich enough to own a large enough lake. Most reserviors would not let a Seagull within 2 miles!

So it really has to be on the Sea. The limitations above come into play. Anyone any ideas for a suitable location?

The Cornish guys get away with it because it is out of season, December! In July they would find it a mite more difficult to get near the water! Me I am a warm weather person, so would look to be somewhere with all the right facilities in summer...

I'm sure my yacht club could provide a venue. We'd probably have to make a solemn promise to drink a lot of beer to put the bar into profit, however...

We have a slipway, a test tank, boat, bar, restaurant.

And Poole has to be a suitable venue - if it was good enough for Pinniger and Way-Hope etc etc.

Actually I'm open minded, and feel a little mean about talking you into coming in my direction.
