Throttle Cable 40+

My throttle cable (40+ villiers carb) standard length (outer 10"0) only seems to last approx one season
Should the cable be cable tied to the shaft and/or should I make up a longer cable?
Any advice would be appreciated

I think a longer cable is far better on the 40 series. I make my own from cables designed for motor bikes. 40 plus one is a couple of inches at least longer than standard, which allows the tiller to go up or down without fear of straining the outer cable. Simply cut the cable to the required length outer and inner and solder on the required nipple. After that ensure the cable is oiled internally and you are good to go.

The cable tie holds it to the tiller and in alignment to the throttle lever, for a nice smooth action.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES THREAD THE THROTTLE CABLE THROUGH THE CAST ALUMINIUM HOLE IN THE CASTING, just to the right of your blue cable tie if it's present on your tiller arm.

Your lucky you don't have one.

This device must have been designed to quadruple the sales of throttle cables, as it wrecks them very efficiently!

You will find all of John's cables are the 2" longer type.

I agree, I always put the cable tie half way along the tiller.
