throttle cable

hi.. this is my first post on the forum so be gentle with me.. can someone tell me how much longer the inner cable should be over the outer cable on a villiers carb.. another words if i have the inner and outer level at one end how much inner should be showing at the other end .. thanks for your help ..

Hello Supersaint - somebody may know the dimensions you are asking for, but I bet most use the one they took off as a pattern!
It can of course be worked out with some fiddling and faffing- ie. make up say the carb end and fit it, and then deduce the length you need to wrap around the throttle lever at the other end, but I just order new ones from John. You would just need to tell him that the cable is for a Villiers carb, and it may help him to know the model and maybe the engine serial number

The carby end, I drill a hole to the same diameter of the soldered lug in a bit of hardwood and use the same principal. If you don't have the original I suggest, same as Rick, you purchase one from John.

Just have a clean inner and solder on the nipple and try for adjustment first.

If adjuster can not take out slack heat the nipple and slide further up, try again.

Then again if required snipping excess inner off each time.

When correct with adjuster at 30%, re solder and trim cable on nipple.

If you're going to make your own lugs, I'd suggest tinning the cable with regular solder, but use wheel-weight lead for making the lug itself. Wheel weights contain around 3% antimony, which makes the lead much harder, and will wear better than 100% lead.
