off topic - searching google group posts

Post by Geoff Uphill »

Completely off topic - but seagull tinkerers are laways trying to find out odd things, so its not completely ott -

I cannot search Google groups any more - I just get one page, but no index to futher pages - despite google telling me its found loads more ?
I've always used this to find obscure things - fixes etc.

Its impossible to contact google - so the only way I have of finding if others have the same problem is to ask on a forum.

I found that using the google home page search was very Ho_Hum.

Put Google as your browser's default search engine if you have not allready. Google "T.S.R." is loaded and works very well next time you open the browser.

Google Chrome is a worry. Mozilla or Microsoft the TSR is tuned in well.

Just a thort.

Google is my default search engine.
Aparently it is a bug that Google seem very slow to fix. Google Groups will search all newsgroup posts - and its not showing an index link to further pages. If you add -

&start=10&sa=n

to the url of the first page it will load the second page - ie pages 11-19. If you set the preferences to show 100 per page - then the above is 100 - rather than 10 ( &start=100&sa=n ) - for the next set of pages change the 100 to 200 etc .
Google Groups is etremely useful for searching for obscure things. Try search for Google malfunctions on a web search and you will find little. Search newsgroup posts and you will find thousands ! Which is why I use it.
