i have a chance to buy three seagulls. haven't seen anything but the attached pic yet, and don't yet know the numbers. a fellow a few towns over heard that i had a seagull and emailed me with the pic asking me to "make an offer" for 3 he had in his garage.
He writes:
"i have 3 of them--make me an offer--all are locked up- 2 are complete i would say--3rd is apart, i think i have the parts--and i have a few new parts for these engines--make me an offer for all-----the carbs, gearfoots/transmissions are there, electrics are there..."
i wrote him back asking for the motor numbers and other info, but in the mean time, I'm assuming that the seagulls sometimes "lock up" due long periods of non-use? I've freed up lawnmower engines by standing the cylinder upright and pouring in penetrant (or WD-40). This will often lossen them up. aftewards polishing the area of the cylinder wall where the ring was stuck with 600 wet/dry sand paper would clean things up.
Of course the cause could be more severe - like a bent crank or other severe internal injury - but for now I'm just trying to gather enough knowledge to know what the best offer would be.
thanks for any seagull wisdom

Re: locked up seagulls
Hi Jerry - the price is whatever he will accept or what you feel is reasonable - from their general condition I would doubt they are seized or have serious problems, but unless the parts are about, one appears to have its exhaust tube missing, only one has a transom clamp, only one tank, tillers and throttle levers missing etc. I would pay max $50.00 here (except I would pay in £'s obviously), and only if you want them or could use the spares.
Re: locked up seagulls
If these could be had for $50-$100, you could get one going and EBay the remains if so inclined.

Re: locked up seagulls
here's what i got...
a 3 hp 40+ and a Century that are maybe 95% compete. just missing things like fuel valve stoppers, tank caps, etc. After investing a little in needed parts i should have these running by spring (plan to make these winter basement projects).
also got a 1.5 hp 40+ whose major ill is a missing carb but it can either be an organ donar or i might try to horsetrade its parts for others i need.
the seller had a box of parts that didn't show in the pic. this is where things like the tanks (one was a longe rang tank thats missing a mounting screw) and transom brackets. i actually an extra transom bracket...also got sales literature and service bulletins 1-18 on the century.
all for 64£....err, i mean $100.00.
i just got my 1st seagull a few weeks ago, now i got 4 of the damned things

Yeah, this stuff is a bit habit forming and you've got a lot of good horse-trade options in there if you only wanted one or two running motors out of the lot. Best of luck over the winter.
