seagull died today appreciate help
so first day of the new fishing season, decided to take my engine for a blast and do a spot of fishing.
she started about 3rd pull, and was just crusing nicely. until i heard a dreaded spluttering and just like that she's stoppped producing a spark.
The engine is a seagull featherweight 2hp 1979-1984 model with serial starting EFS.
Any ideas what is could be ive tried cuttin a bit off the HT lead but still feeling nothing when i pull start and hold the HT lead end. theres also no spark on the plug when ht connected tried another plug too and nothing.

Yar HT lead could be nackered,

Thanks for reply could it be only the lead with it working then dyin just like that, also i've just taken the recoil starter off and im faced with a 22mm Nut which when i try to undo the prop turns, whats the best way to undo this i dont wanna start tryin to stick things in the fly wheel to try and keep it still.

Hi there,
mine did this the other week. The weatherman got it wrong and facing a 30 knot head wind and the tide and an oil warning from the yanmar inboard, my trusted WSPCL came out of the heads and forced me on against all odds. Well for 20 mins! Then she died, no spark. Turns out the inline suppressor in the HT lead had come loose. Now fixed and all is well.
Also about 25 years ago the coil on my 40+ rotated and lost contact with the HT lead, same thing, no spark.
So there's 2 things to check, good luck.

The E in the serial number signifies that your Seagull uses a CDI (capicitor discharge ignition) ignition system.
So no points, no condensor, when they die they are dead, (more often than not it is not possible to change the plug leads, only the white CDI's have removable plug leads) you will have to talk to John who will be able to supply you with a replacement unit, only available on an exchange basis.

if this is the case can he replace the magneto with a mark 1 villiars with points? i dont know about these things really

thanks ppl theres a few things i can try there, hopefully its something simple rather the a new CDI but i suppose atleast thats the worse it can be. im just in the middle of taking it apart, i have the recoil starter and top plate off, im at the fly wheel now which i guess the CDI and HT is underneath ? how do i take the fly wheel off i cant see anything holding it on but its refuses to budge

Not sure if its in the F&Q but i should know by now.
ITS A TWO MAN JOB.
I got the moth to hold the engine off the ground about an inch.
Remove the starter pulley plate and replace the dome nut(screw down tight)
Then with the motor up off the ground and ur helper holding the motor up by the flyhwheel, Whack the dome nut a good strike and it should come off.
Make sure the piston is farthest away from the spark plug before u srike the nut.
but i would NOT remove the flywheel unless absolutely needed.

DO NOT SCREW THE NUT DOWN TIGHT, remove the starter cup & the spacer beneath it, It's not a dome nut. make sure you give the flywheel nut a good sharp blow but make sure you hit it square on or you will bend the top end of the crankshaft.
What your trying to do is knock the crankshaft out of the middle of the flywheel

thanks i guess that will have to get done tomorrow if i need another man.
so by taking this flywheel off to access the cdi, is there anything i can play with to try and get it sparking, or do you think its just died and needs to be replaced.
also do i have to do a staight swap for swap with the cdi, OR could as use i different igniton system as someone mentioned above. which maybe would be easy to fix if it ever fails, without having to replace the whole unit.
