OK, I have stopped playng with the Bendix as it is basically sorted for later. I mentioned a "Tank Job" for a Featherweight, well, here it is.
GF 1731GG7, I bought it probably four years ago now and it is basically New. Except for the poor things tank which, right now, needs Rust Stop treatment, poor thing!
I have meaning to catch it before too bad and hopefully the original decal will be saved but I doubt it somehow. Um, it has been sitting in a shed since I got it so advanced cancer underneath to fix.
I have an SOS, Thanks John, decal to replace if necessary.
It is really my most thought of Gull so tank works start NOW!
They really run well eh?
and maybe original decal will live as the bad is under......
I have one the same, it is in excellent condition with very little use from a one owner family, they didn't understand the outboard and asked me to get it going, it only needed a carb clean a plug and gearbox oil, it runs really well, I said to them as a joke if they want to part with it I will take it, 2 weeks later they contacted me and gave it to me, they wanted it to go to someone who knew how to look after it.
That is basically how I got mine Chris. It was on Ebay Australia but the seller had it from new and I think that I got it because I cared? There was a higher bidder but It was sent to me wonderfully packed up professionally with books and the rope start cord that I have sent previous posts on basically for nothing!
I love it to Bits! Everything is operationally perfect with no carbon on the piston etc?
Anyway, the tank has had a brush up, little brush but as still wanting to keep decal. The surface rust was actually very minor and the pressed seam is totally clear of a future problem.
The underside brushed up really clean
So, after the "Brushing" I think that the "Poole" part of the Decal has gone but no matter with that as I reckon a 2010 maintenance procedure and keep the Old Girl as is.
So rust flakes off, "Poole" aint looking good but a carefull brush with Ranex and detail prep can begin to hopefully let the tank fit the rest of the motor as "Looked After". I think that this original well cared for look is important for a favourite.
The flywheel paint colour I am getting matched at my local auto paint supplier..............they scan digitally and duplicate. I have not been able to get the same goldy/greeny hammer finish in mass produced cans so far. They are all incorrect.
This is the gold hammer finish that I managed to find, exact match! Prob for Downunder but called HammerCoat.HiChem Industries PTY Ltd, 73 Hallam South RD, Victoria 3803 Australia.
You can buy by the litre tin if you have lots of flywheels to do. All others I have tried have either been too "Green" or "Too Brown"
Now to get a canvas carry bag......................
I baby mine as well compared to the others, they are such a pretty motor, gave it a big run of a couple of hours on the back of an old mirror 16 and it never missed a beat, my other half calls it "the other woman"
Chris, Mate, I guess that I am a very sad basket as I have the Old Dears' rope......
Then I put it through the washing machine in a "Smalls Bag" (Laura my Daughter is going to off when SHE reads this but I do not Care)
So...............Everything is as should be and I will get a carry bag with internal pockets for all "Kit" including manuals and tools (Pouch) started tomorrow.
If anyone is interested I can display what I reckon a "Bag" should be and get extras made locally............................
I use the same starter chord, It is the best to use, my other half finds all seagull and wood boat owners very amusing and eccentric,
I once said to her about getting a more modern outboard but she told me she trusts the seagulls an likes the old technology, she can't drive, rarely ever turns on her mobile phone doesn't know how to text, hasn't got a clue about computers and is not the slightest bit interested, doesn't know how to turn on the dvd player and doesn't care, only likes wooden boats and she calls us eccentric
