An SD on eBay at the moment...
Short water jacket block and crankcase with alloy tank lugs
Gearbox, prop, driveshaft tube
Tank and straps
Magneto baseplate, flywheel and cover ('coolie hat' type)
Spark plug cap
Exhaust and bronze clamp ring
Carburettor.
....each lot is separate.
What a shame.
I have a feeling we're going to see more of this sort of thing.
Another one broken for spares... what a shame

I agree that it's a real shame. The trouble is, the unscrupulous are finding that the sum the parts, with a profit on postage, is worth more than the whole.
I think we should name and same the usual suspects on Ebay who break engines needlessly.
I myself have only ever sold parts I have acquired as parts

Hmm - naming and shaming eh?
I'm not sure I'd like to do that on someone else's forum, but I do get a little disappointed with the people that take advantage. There is something very shabby about dismantling rare old motors - or cars, or, well, anything - to sell in the form of parts. Not that I have a problem with people making a living; we all have to eat.
The SD I'm referring to is not the worst - I keep thinking about the Marston last week..
You're right about the postage, there was a guy on there wanting £6.00 post and packing for a bakelite plug cover!
And there are those who bid their own stuff up with spare identities. There are a couple of names that keep on cropping up on eBay that I am convinced are one and the same person - I can't help wonder what on earth they're trying to hide.

In the US, at least, Charles, this is a federal crime and is highly illegal. Unlike many illegal activities, ebay has a vested interest in stopping this and will act if they are notified. If you think this happening, you can post the details to a security site on ebay and they will investigate. And there are those who bid their own stuff up with spare identities. I share your pain on those breaking up old motors...on the other hand one could offer a bid for a more complete motor...the world market place for the older Seagulls cant be that large...????
