Propellor question

Post by outboard »

Can anyone tell me, should I have a bit of loose play on my prop. I can move the prop about 1/4 inch or so. Is this ok, or should the prop be fixed tight once the spring and split pin are fitted?

I take it you mean ¼" end float.
It seemed a bit much so I thought I would check mine.

The little used 40+ has very little end float, less than 1mm I would think. The regularly used Featherweight, about 3 - 4 mm. The difference seems to be due to differences in the drive springs, both having been "re-manufactured" at some time.

Thanks folks. I might be a bit exaggerated by 1/4 inch, but yes there is some movement.
