I have had sellers tell me there engine didn't come with a gearbox, when they meant it didn't come with a clutch. but this wouldn't be true in every case.
The logic as he explained it to me was as it didn't have , forward, neutral, and reverse like a proper outboard it must not have a gearbox.

You will have a lot more fun with one of these, and you can get parts. the Yamato 302 and for less money.
