Drive pinion split pin.
My 40 plus is already to be reassembled, so I started with the gearbox, after putting the pinion gear back into place and making sure the bolt recess was lined up with the casing, :x The split pin holding the pinion collar had snapped, after fiddling about I got the rest of the pin out :x :x :x

Re: Copper ease v Marine grease.
Will go with the copper ease, used to get the old alloy steel corrosion on the old Land Rovers
I plan on getting a fair amount of grease inside the driveshaft hopefully will slow down the rotting.

I would have loved to have done a video for this rebuild 8) I did not really set out for a total restoration, but it has been fun totally different than a car engine, at least there is no lying on your back in the cold and wet.

Re: Drive shaft.
The engine is a 40 plus built in June 1972
FPI42F2.
I call it little as Iam more used to car engines, so a single piston is small.
But if I can give this engine a new lease of life then all well.
