Re: Cracked Cylinder Silver Century Plus

Wow! Thank you Phil!
I'll definitely call. Sounds like a very interesting gentleman.

Here's where I was today though. Up at 4:00am and didn't get back 'till 5:30pm.

Re: Cracked Cylinder Silver Century Plus

Haven't figured out how to embed videos here.

I got impatient and started the engine before my rain bucket filled past the exhaust.
I ran it for 30 seconds or so. Just long enough to document the event.

I did get a vid of it frothing 30 gallons, but it's difficult to hang onto an outboard (with 11 ...

Re: Cracked Cylinder Silver Century Plus

I am sure it will be fine, my race century had a crack that I epoxied, it has lasted for years.

You can anneal the head gasket to reuse it, heat to cherry red then let cool or quench.

A small amount of RTV and you will be good to go.

Re: Cracked Cylinder Silver Century Plus

I have some POR-15 left over from I can't remember what (it was only a couple weeks ago too  )
I am going to see how it holds up to Seagull operating temps. I wouldn't think the cylinder block runs more then 130°-140°F.
Sorry...keep forgetting my audience! That's 52°-53°C :)
I've been ...

Re: Cracked Cylinder Silver Century Plus

I have a half day tomorrow.
I should be testing the engine in 20ish hours.

I Googled what to use to dress a copper head gasket and, it seems, times have changed.
Black RTV is what I will be applying.

Re: Cracked Cylinder Silver Century Plus

It's a quest but it can happen! Did you check the exhaust port for cracks?

I did.
I couldn't find any cracks other then the burst water jacket.
There are casting seams that I examined very closely.
I wound up breaking the "cookie" off the cylinder, digging out all the rust, wire wheeling the ...
