May not apply, but I had a similar experience with a '75 Silver Century Plus and assumed that the carb was a 10:1 version when in fact (or I believe) it was a 25:1. Operated normal after fresh 25:1 fuel. I am not familiar with 40 Plus. See recent WSPCL choke item in general discussion for further ...

Thorough cleaning of tank, float and carb, plus fresh fuel did not improve performance. However, received and installed 25:1 conversion kit, fresh batch of 25:1 fuel and instant improvement. Thanks for the info. I plan to convert to 25:1. That change, a few minor parts and some TLC should make her the envy of the lake resting on the stern of my '79 Siren 17.
