SAE 140 oil vs 00 Grease?
I was speaking with a Vintage Outboard Engine restorer yesterday. He asked what kind of grease I run in the lower end of my Silver Century Plus. I told him nothing but straight SAE 140 gear oil. He said to me the stuff was rubbish and that was old school thinking to still be using that. He said he ...

Re: crank endfloat & x stamp
My end float is .035" or maybe a tad more. From my post a few weeks ago, that is very normal even new. 3-4 mm does seem excessive.
but I am a rookie too these things, so my knowledge is minimal!

Do head Bolts require a sealant?
I am about to put my head back on my silver century plus, annealed the gasket, now was wondering if the head bolts should have a sealant since they go into the water jacket.

Re: flywheel end play
Thank you very much for the reassurance. Sorry about asking again. I missed Rick stating the float was okay.
Now, next topic - Compression PSI - I am getting a cold compression reading of about 32 psi. That seems pretty low, even in a 2 stroke...Do those numbers warrant a hone and new rings?
Paul

Re: cylinder hone
I agree on the flex hone. the three armed hone will get caught on the transfer ports and mess up the hone, unless the arms of the hone are really long. I have used a flex hone for the cylinder on my vintage vespa with excellant results. New rings seated quickly and the compression went up to 140 ...

Re: flywheel end play
yes, the thrust washer is toast too. Anyone got the part number for the Thrust Washer? I believe the crown wheel PN is P1408.
So what about the endplay on the crank / flywheel, I would assume that is bad? can it be shimmed from inside the housing or is it something I should not worry about? I have ...

flywheel end play
Hi, new member here.
I just received a 1972 WSPCL from my neighbor who bought it new in '72. It has been left in a shed for last 15 years and he gave it to me after hearing someone stole my new 4hp 4 stroke off my 20' gulf coast sailboat.
After degreasing the engine, cleaning the tank, carb etc ...
