Re: long shaft vs short shaft

Thanks for that, lots us useful info on that site :)

The head blew first time after about 3 minutes use, and after that after about 5 minutes use, think the first was an allready flawed gasket (it had been sat for 5 years!) and the next two times my cereal packet gaskets were not up to the job ...

Re: long shaft vs short shaft

Thanks for the impellor tips :)

Going to bite the bullet and go for the new parts, none of which are particularly costly even the housing.

And as for the Tamar tide, know that feeling, last head gasket failure was on a huge spring tide, launched convinced all was well from saltash slip - what an ...

Re: long shaft vs short shaft

Really helpful stuff posted here :)

Not so bothered if the car packs in, but the boat can be a bit hairy!

Lucky I have the trusty ol' gull stashed away just in ...

Re: driveshafts ...

Brilliant, thanks again, thats the sort of info I was lacking.

And agreed, leave well alone unless in trouble!, this was one seized (motor and gearbox). It is a bit of an adventure taking it apart, and you can tell which part spent more time submerged! Head etc all came apart like it was bolted ...

Re: driveshafts ...

Thats great thank you Peter, and for what it is worth I had found the image you posted, just didnt really understand how it comes apart as it seems to be totally solid!

I am a little wiser now, but still can not get the locking pin out (number 22), I just cant see it at all, but I will keep trying ...

Re: driveshafts ...

so here are some pictures, perhaps someone can help!

You may be able to see the pinion in the gear box, broken impellor and driveshaft seemingly secured for ever!

Basically I want to take all of the remaining bits apart and it is driving me nuts!, seems welded with the same glue god used to hold ...

Re: points

scrub that whole question, I was missing the point by some way!

So setting the gap with the motor striiped to component parts will never work, had a play and then remembered how my spark plugs fire - timing!

Happy days, haphazard seagull rebuild is well underway.

Amal Carb headache!

Hi All

I have recently picked up a couple of old seagull's. One to power my little fishing boat and one to restore to do the same job!

The motor I am trying to restore is http://www.saving-old-seagulls.co.uk/i_d_your_seagull/i_d_your_seagull.php?EngineNum=AC47401

The carb is a little past it's ...
