Re: 102 still not running

Thanks for all the replies. I have the retaining clip on the lowest groove. You all seem to confirm my thought that the 416 isn't really happy with heavier fuel mixes. However, I had a chat with an old friend who reminded me that we used to do our own re-jetting on motorbikes many years ago. So ...

102 still not running

I mistakenly started this topic in the general discussion section. I have a 1955/56 102 s/n AC46369 fitted with an Amal 416 carb. I bought it from a guy who said he hadn't used it over the winter and didn't need it any more. Following advice from John, I put in a new plug and HT lead, reset points ...

Re: Non-starting 102

It does have a 95 jet fitted to the 416. I've also noticed that drops of petrol are dripping out of the air inlet of the carb when its running. Not sure that's supposed to happen :( I've had similar symptoms with old chain saws which usually indicate piston ring problems. I'll take the plug out ...

Re: Non-starting 102

Sorry to disappoint you but the names a reference to the wife. Not sure she'd be too happy about a photo even if I had one.

Re: Non-starting 102

Thanks for all the advice. A picture tells a thousand words especially on the locating lug under the base plate. I was looking for something inside the flywheel. Anyhow, I can report some progress. Put in new lead and plug and cleaned up connections, cleaned carb again and put it all back together ...

Re: Non-starting 102

Thanks for the quick replies. The serial number is AC46369 which is a 1955/6 model according to John's identifier. The only change from original appears to be the change to a 416 carb although I'm a newbie to this seagull lark!! I'll try and get some photos. I've had another look based on your ...

Non-starting 102

I have a 1956/57 102 long shaft that I bought locally as a repair case. I got it to the point where it would start after 10-12 pulls (albeit unreliably). It has a really good strong spark and I've given the carb a thorough clean but it now won't start at all. I can get the odd misfire and it does ...
