I have noticed that on the shaft is a bracket with 2 bolts on, does this allow me to lift the prop higher in the water ? If so how much do you recomend below the hull of the boat ...

Re: Bought A Seagull,, Help Please
UPDATE
Took the seagull out again today with new impellor fitted plus new head, the other was badly coroded that the side case came apart. Anyway now runs really well and throws water out by the bucket full on high revs.
Thank you all for your advice and experience
Now a truly converted Seagull Fan!

Seagull 40 plus longshaft convertion
I have a Seagull 40plus longshaft and am using it on my 8ft dingy tender, is it possible to shorten the shaft to short shaft to give me more drive as at the moment it is too deep in the water and drags?

I stripped my Seagull outboard down to replace a new block, now I'm having trouble getting the piston into place because the rings wont close in. Any ideas on an easy way to do it without snapping them. I know there is a special tool to do this but its only a one off time

Re: Bought A Seagull,, Help Please
Have you got it set at the right depth? The exhaust should be 1-2 inches below water level - if you have it higher than that, then there may not be enough water available to circulate. You really shouldn't run your engine for more than a couple of minutes without proper water circulation as it will ...
