Have just bought an EF Featherweight on Ebay.(EF 9 R7)

When I went to pick it up the guy said did I want the cardboard box that it came in ?

Does the R mean Refurbished/Recon ? and was it the 9th reconditioned that year.

The box has Seagull stickers on it and a delivery date of 9/7/1987.

There were two tie on labels in the box, one says to fill the gearbox before use and the other had the previous owners name with the serial number on it.

I remover the plug and took this picture of the piston

Is it normal that it would be this shiny? I would expect to see some carbon.

Perhaps it came back from a referb and was not used much.

General condition is very good not quite mint.

Can post pictures of the box if people want to see it.

Thanks

Go on, admit it, you took the plug out and have been polishing the piston with a cotton bud and solvol autosol haven't you!

I certainly would expect the piston to be duller than that on a well used example. Mine isn't really covered in carbon, but shows a dull grey not nice and shiny like that!

I think you are right in that R=Recon, not sure the 7 has any sigificance, others will confirm no doubt.

As for pics, I always like to see em, post away!

I'm always surprised how clean seagulls run. This is off an early eighties gull in its original state... amazing isn't it!
