40+ big end

Anyone out there any ideas on reassembly of 40+ big end. When I stripped the motor all I can remember is that the two retaining scews were tight and took some shifting. On reassembly with the screws tight the crank is very difficult to turn. Should the screws be backed off slightly as this seems to cure the problem? Is there a torque setting for these screws?
The screws were also wired together through holes in the end of the screws. Is this wire anything special, as I have some stiff thin wire I could use to replace it.

Cheers Simon

Are you 100% sure you're putting it back together exactly how it came apart.
Wreath making wire is the best form of wire that I've found .

Good luck Andy.

Hello Andy,

trouble is after stripping it down everything fell apart so im not sure the shells are in the right way round. Will have to check/ try different combinations. I take it the scews should be tight.
The wire I have is a very thin piano wire, but your suggestion of wreath making wire would be more flexible.

Cheers will keep posted - Simon

Yes screws should be tight.

If you work it out there are only 4 ways it can go!

Good luck
