Saving Old Seagulls

I have a 40 plus number EFPLC 700BB0, the gears seem to be seized. Looking for info on whereto start. May be willing to buy replacement if posted to Ireland. Thanks in advance

Is your Gearbox a sealed one?

Drain gearbox oil, remove prop, remove gearbox end cap, remove prop shaft.

Now your problem should be self explanatory.

As Charles says you can easily pop the gearbox cap off and inspect. Seagulls are serviceable with the most basic tool kit.

Possible causes:
1) gunk buildup in gearbox (old emulsified water/oil mix dried to powder over long time. Most likely)
2) drive shaft or prop shaft seized in bushing in the gearbox housing (uncommon but possible)
2) seized piston (identifiable if flywheel has a small amount of play in either direction but prop is stuck fast. Easy to identify)

Its always remarkable to see a seagull gearbox innards all seized up and rusty, only to find with a elbow grease and attention its comes back to quite serviceable again
