Saving Old Seagulls

Hi

I have the aforetitled Seagull and have got it working and fires up fine. However, I don't seem to be able to have the engine 'on' but the blades not turning (i.e. idling), so it's either on and going or off.

Is this something I should be able to do? If so, how am I supposed to do it and/or what bit is not working right?

Post the full serial number of your Seagull, which will be found on the lower half of the crankcase, we will then be able to tell if your Seagull has the ability to run without the prop rotating.

You have a fixed gear Forty Plus (FP) that doesn't have a clutch which would enable it to run without the prop turning.

Yes, as with many seagulls and the smaller forty models in particular, the FP is fixed drive therefore always ‘in gear’.

Models with ‘neutral’ typically contained the letter C in the engine code, indicating a clutch was fitted. For example FPC would indicate forty plus with clutch.
