Cylinder Head Stamp

I’ve not noticed it before, but had the tank off an EFNR earlier and the cylinder head was stamped with serial matching the motor. A quick search of the forum didn’t turn up anything, are there any posts on this?

I have never seen it before. Is it the same font and layout? Or does it look home done?

Got a pic of it?

I've never seen one, I'd guess at this being home done.

The number wasn't stamped on the crankcase at Seagull until the unit passed through the full test tank tests, the number was taken from the build book & then the crankcase was stamped & the motor went off to packing, we believe the fuel tank was fitted for the test tank trials, as you haven't shown us were this number is located on yours it's not possible to do any better than an educated guess.

It looks like the same font to me but a bit hard to tell. I will try to clean up the head stamp and post another photo tonight.

Seller told me he was original owner and he didn’t seem like a tinkerer so I am wondering who stamped it and when if not at the factory.

Looks like the exact same font, which leads me to believe this was done at the factory.

Does anyone have an ENFR in similar date range that they can check? Interested to know if this was a one-off or something more common.

Thanks again!

I love this sort of stuff, as it helps identify an outboard as being original.

Am working on an early Australian (AMECO) Seasprite at the moment. Serial number appears on the rope sheave, magneto (magnet), lower crank case assembly, and tiller mounting bracket .... so far.

Unfortunately the drive side of the crank (where it couples with the drive shaft) is damaged, so I am needing either a repair or a replacement there before I can proceed the resto.

Regards,
S
