Saving Old Seagulls

My newly acquired 40 Plus w/clutch EFPC 398AA0 starts and runs fine but the only way I can stop it is to choke it till it floods and shuts down. Hopefully this isn't SOP. Is there a better way?

Yes, slacken off the throttle cable at the carburettor end of the cable and the motor will stall out.

The same applies to all of the carb setups.

With our racing setups we set the carb so the engine won't stop. It will get down to a slow (ish) tick over, then put your hand over the carb to flood... ready for the next quick start!

Tried this by rotating the tiller bar up to slacken the cable but engine still ran. What about repositioning the throttle lever assembly on the bar? I noticed there are 2 screws on the assembly that if loosened would allow it to slide back and forth. Being in a different position on the bar would change the slack on the cable. Or, is this non-stoppage some sort of carburetor internal problem?
