Saving Old Seagulls

Apart from a seagull....Who makes the best 5hp outboard motor?

Although this is more a personally opinion question i would say Yamaha or Mercury.

2 or 4 stroke?

Price range?

Really it depends on lots of things, are you talking about vintage or modern motors, plus everybody will have a personal preference on a motor that they have used.
You have hundreds of makes and thousands models to pick from.

Do you mean one that doesn't break down every 5 minutes when it's a bit old and tired?

Any outboard is a good outboard if its looked after and maintained well. Seagulls are reliable because theres not that much to go wrong their so simple theres not that much maintanance to be done. Where as four stroke motors get left with old dirty oil in them year after year because people are too lazy to lift the cover and change oil and plugs. Then people wonder why they wont start or run properly

al be more specific...if u had to buy an outboard...new or second hand..which one would u buy

Anything mechanical could once have been thought of as reliable once upon a time, but let time do it's own thing and it's a different question altogether. Add into the mix some dubious maintenance and you have a potential nightmare with a lot of old outboards. Seagulls at times can be no different to all the rest of them.
You pays your money you makes a choice.
Hopefully you will make a good choice, but.....
