Have you got any mates on the warm side of the border, you could post them to?

I finish my tanks with Halfords petrol resistant lacquer, so before that is applied I rub down the gloss coat with 1500 grit wet and dry. This gives the lacquer something to key to and also makes it easier to slide the decal transfers into position.

It pays to warm the part, and the paint if possible.

If you're using a spray can, try placing it in a container filled with warm water for a few minutes ie before spraying.
