Hello all,

I have just refurbished a 40 standard shaft 40 plus with a clutch. Thanks to John at SOS for various parts and stainless nuts.

Runs nicely in a bin, not too smoky :-) and scared the hell out of the neighbours cat - I had forgotten how noisy these are.

I have a small dinghy (3m) for it to go on ahd have discovered that the seagull 40 clamp is just a touch small.

I can relieves the wood a bit but anated to ask if I can use a century bracket and mount and if the century clamp can handle a slightly larger transom and fit the 40 shaft.

Thanks for your advice.

Hi Snowy

Welcome to the Forum!
OK, it is possible to fit a Century transom bracket to a 40+, but some things need to be changed.

-Obviously, you need the actual bracket
-You need the clamp assembly that goes around the drive tube (the black plastic semicircular part and the metal part with tilt hook)

After you get those parts, you simply remove the current drive tube clamp from the drive tube and change over.

Can you post some pics of your motor? We all like pics here  8)

Cheers
BP

There is a possibility that you have the older 40 series bracket with the security bar on the port side . This fits transoms up to 1.75 thick. Whereas the later bracket, with the security bar on the stbd side will fit transoms up to 2.12 thick.
I may not be 100% correct about the side for the security bar, but certainly the opening is smaller with the earlier bracket, which has a raised grip on the outside of thr transom.

Not the greatest photo; my next one is a small forty that my father in law bought new in 1980 ?

I would like to buy a bolt on 40 mount as it would suit this transom but I haven't found on on the eBay yet...
