I cant remember if i asked this question before or not? (cant find what i'm looking for on here either  )

Which of the 3 wires on the alternater do what?
I think i remember somewhere there was a plastic plug that was reversible to increase/decrease the voltage. (plug has long gone now)

My memory is a bit vague on this but recall something about joining 2 of the wires together to create a + and the other was a -
but which wires are which?

I knew i'd seen this before, but through the mists of time things get forgotten.

Thanks a lot, that helps a bunch.
Now i need to find a waterproof plug of some kind.
