Saving Old Seagulls

Hi all I need some advice please.The threads are not totally stripped but the banjo bolt will not tighten.I searched the forum and found only one thread on the subject and he got a helicoil fitted.I took my carb body to the local precision engineering and he tells me walls aren't thick enough to take helicoil.So my question,has anyone had any success with chemical metal? If so which brand/type? Or would I be better off going with a 10mm 1mm/1.5mm thread or drill out to 7/16"? At this stage originality is not the end game,just get it running and reliable

Amal carbs are easily found and not expensive, they can be bushed to fix the problem, if you have the tools and time, the last one I got was a fiver, its an easier option.

I would suggest 10mm, 1mm pitch or less. I depends on the replacement banjo bolt that you will find. But you have to verify that the walls have enough material for the surgery!

Why not talk to John he supplies replacement bodies with a stainless steel insert which will cure your problem for ever.

Why not just buy a replacement carb! There's loads of villiers carbs about and cheap too. (£15-£20 should get you one)

If this is a villiers carb, I have the tools to helicoil the banjo bolt threads, which I've done for a couple of forum members. However I'm working away after this weekend for a couple of months.

No advocates for chemical metal,so I'll rule that out.
The new carb is the way to go and that's what I'll do,eventually.I was looking for something to get me on the water,today or tomorrow,with her to see how she flies but ran into this leak.Putting her on the back of a Mirror dinghy..for
