Base plate looks right, is the flywheel all the way down, or is the key way off kilter.

I think that the base plate is incorrect.
Perhaps from an air cooled stationary 4 stroke or similar.
Check the pics from the same angle. The casting and boss is very different. Note the engine number. If there is a JM number on the plate please let us know.
Note position of fasteners as well that secure components to inside.
Check the taper on the flywheel if it did not come with the power head. Bearing blue or black marker on taper and rotate flywheel once on shaft. Check that the taper has been wiped clean.
A pic of from above would be interesting by the way?
Everything shiny briny..........

Have a measure of the hight of the crank coming out of the block, as the base plate looks normal, so its either going to be the crank or the flywheel that's the problem.

Puzzled, first second and third pictures are of an SD crank case, but not the last.
I think its just a mater of the wrong parts.

I have a similar problem with my SD, except with mine the problem is with the points box cover is only just catching/rubbing on the underside of the flywheel?
(probably a worn lower crank bush)
Have you taken the crackcases apart yet? It might be the bottom crank bush has taken the brunt of wear and tear over the years. (identical problems with later 102's)
