Running issues

Post by Jasper »

Hello everyone. I am still a newbie, but learning a lot thanks to everyone on here. You guys are awesome! I am having an issue with my motor when I engage the prop only. I have a WSPCL 737HH5. When running in a barrel without the prop engaged, I have no issues. Once I engage the prop it seems to begin to run erratic and eventually will stall out. Water is circulating fine now and this only happens with prop engaged. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Many of the guys on here know much more than me, but the first thing I would do is take the jets out of the carb and make sure they are clean. Sometimes petrol and oil will `dry out` and part block the jets. I sometimes wash mine in a drop of acetone.

Its one problem that has comes up time and time again.

The things it could be.

1: running with the exhaust to deep in the tank.

2: gearbox hard to turn ( lacking oil or part seized )

3: down on compression ( replace piston ring )

Most common is No3

OK basic tests, if you can turn the flywheel though its compression stroke with one hand on top of the flywheel, then you are likely to need new rings, if you just cover the gearbox with water in a tank and it runs in gear, ( it needs new rings) remove the prop and run in gear, if it runs OK. (new ring are needed).

I find that this issue is more related to crankcase sealing.

Gulls will run very nicely at almost no compression as long as the bottom end is OK.

Split the cases and lap flat mating surfaces until uniform mating surface/flat on glass plate and "conundrum wet and dry paper" .

Use the easily obtained Bond #2 sealer from any motorcycle dealer and assemble.

Good seal bottom off barrel and try again.

I have been caught out a few times in that the carb was not tight on the spiggot by the way

Just a thort.

Let us know how you fair and remember.....................We all like Pics!

Cheers
