Float needle

My Forty featherweight with Villiers carb has a leaky float needle.
Examining the needle with a magnifying glass shows a ring into the cone, probably caused by vibrations.
I have a model lathe on board, so could reshape the cone.
What is the best way to make the float needle fit leak free ?
