Saving Old Seagulls

I was after a 40 plus but came across this old girl....
It has not been started in a number of years but is not seized, apart from paint and exhaust has been pushed in it looks in ok condition. I thought worth a gamble for £20. I would like to get it going and use on my 10ft boat.

Any thoughts on where i can get a handbook and where i start to bring it back to life?

Never seen a manual for a Minor before, until last week.
I have only go the MK3 Sea Bee.

Sadely that manual is for the later JLO model, you have the ealier (& better) JAP engined version, some info will not be accurate.

Not sad at all, I did realise that it was a manual for a JLO, But the carb is a basic amal, the flywheel has no key-way and that's not exactly rocket science to set up.

Reading through the manual kindly supplied by Collector Inspector the little motor appears to be air cooled and gearbox should be filled with marine grease, what type (specs and brands) do other people use in their engines?

I sprayed engine with wd40 and left for a couple of days, removed spark plug and it came out without any problems. It is a Lodge CN....looks old.
Any ideas on what replacement is?

The equivalent plug to this CN would be.

Champion L10, KLG F50, Bosch W175T2, but as the Lodge CN is a common plug and is still available, you could always get a new one.

Hi robhc1000, It looks very similar to the Seachief, made in Whitstable, Kent early 1960's? It's probably because of the J.A. Preswich engine and tear-drop cowling that makes them look similar. Just looking at your photo's the only significant differences seem to be the exhaust and the leg. . . . jonmac

It looks very very similar indeed. I have started taking mine to bits to clean it up and respray tank. Will post some pictures when i get underway.
