If you are going to repaint, its not gold, its a 50 50 mix if hammered gold and bronze, the recoil parts on top of the flywheel have a habit of breaking, I still have an engine cover with tank and some other parts off a dead Mk3.

I will try to clean up bronze area first, it does not look to bad, the tank and cowling are the worst and i believe the colour is old english white?

Hi Keith, Would the Seachief's have been painted a similar color? I had to source another cowling and recoil starter from New Zealand, and the color on that cowling was a turqouise color. Any ideas?? . . . jonmac :?: :?:

I couldn't say what colour it should be, but I did spot this, it looks more like your one.

Re: Sea bee minor - a set back.

Work on engine suffered a setback today, the prop does not want to come off, the nut undid fine and have tried soaking with oil, tried hot water as well. Was gently tapping prop with wood and hammer and it broke a large piece off - bugger!
Any ideas how to get off and where to get a new prop please??

Is this your prop 380557882907 ? (Search that number on ebay)
Heat on the prop, quenching in diesel and again and again. Don't be gentle with the heat on the prop. Just take care of the prop shaft that it won't change color from the heat.
Then use two pieces of wood like bricks. Lye the prop on them and hit with a hammer the shaft. That may destroy the first thread of it. You will need the appropriate die to fix the threads or put a piece of wood etc between the shaft and the hammer.

Oh, and when hitting the prop should be hot, not as hot as before quenching but hotter than after quenching.

I hope this helps.

Also can a damaged prop be repaired or once its had pieces broken off are they off to the bin?

Does this prop have a cushion hub?

If the answer is yes, heat might not be the best cure!

A cushion hub is a rubber shock absorbing damper between the prop bush that grips the shear pin & the rest of the prop, & performs a similar funtion to the Seagull prop spring.

If its anything like the seabee mk3, then its just a shear pin.

Thank you, looking at a picture of the rear of the prop it does not look like it has a cushion hub.

There are specialist aluminium prop welders (I had the skeg rewelded on my Brittania) but the cost will far outweigh the value of the engine, Ebay is the answer.
