After Collector Inspector posted up on my spark plugs and molassas thread, he showed how he has cleaned spark plugs using vinegar. Ive decided to try his method on a Villiers carb body. I have one that badly damaged, it cant be used anymore. So if soaking it will do harm its going to be no loss. Ive taken some pics of the carb im using and then i will soak it in a container of White vingar for a couple of days giving it a shake here and there and see what happens.

Vinegar will likely produce a different result on the carb as it appears to be an aluminum alloy of some kind.

After a 12 hour soak giving the container a shake a couple of times and then a good squirt with the garden hose, this is how it turned out. The vinegar has not eaten away the alloy, but it has eaten out all of the corriosion that was on the surface leaving the body all nice and clean.
