Our neighbors built a straw bale house. It was what is referred to as " timber framed" in North America, perhaps post and beam elsewhere. The straw was used as the wall infill material, very good insulating value. As far as I know, it didn't require extra compressing beyond what the baler produced. It is very energy efficient.

its not an infill building ---the weight of the roof bears directly onto the stawbales but to speed up compression of the bales and make the building stable i am going to use ratchet straps and pallet strapping----the bales compress by approximately 1/2 inch per bale----------------anyone that knows my wife will realise the difficulty of trying to slip a seagull loft into the building-------regards blue
